If you are searching for San Francisco City Hall wedding photography then you probably know that it’s one of the most well-loved and iconic buildings around; City Hall is also one of the top Bay Area wedding venues. It’s easy to see why: everything is built on a grand scale, from the central rotunda with its soaring ceilings, to the grand staircase and leaded glass windows on the upper floors. All told, the interior space is more than 500,000 square feet (46,000 m2) and occupies two full city blocks. Completed in 1915 to replace the former City Hall that was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake, the Beaux-Arts building is defined by classic architectural lines embellished with beautiful sculptural details.
Whether you opt for a one-hour Ceremony on the Mayor’s Balcony on the second floor, or an evening wedding with dinner and dancing under the rotunda, City Hall is a fabulous place to say, “I do.”
It’s also a photographer’s dream, and has quickly become one of my favorite spots for wedding photography and engagement portraits. While most people want the classic couples’ portrait photographed on the grand stairway, there are so many other wonderful locations. The upstairs galleries are full of wonderful, natural light, and usually are less busy. There are plenty of hidden nooks where you can grab a few moments of privacy–and wedding portraits you’ll treasure forever.
