Indian Wedding Inspiration in San Francisco: Asian Art Museum

It seemed fitting that a few days before Diwali I received an invitation from Namrata from Miraya to collaborate on a shoot for Indian wedding inspiration in San Francisco, for brides planning an Indian wedding or an Indian fusion wedding. She wanted photographs that would feature Indian wedding jewelry and an emerald green iehenga–two of my favorite things–so I immediately said yes.

Asian Art Museum, Popular San Francisco Wedding Venue

We chose the Asian Art Museum, one of the most well-loved San Francisco wedding venues, as our location. It’s easy to see why so many couples choose to have their wedding at the Asian Art Museum: elegant, clean lines, stately pillars, a soaring ceiling, and a golden marble grand staircase. Huge picture windows that let in a flood of natural light. A fairytale wedding location and a photographer’s dream.

Gold Indian Bridal Jewelry

The beautiful gold embroidery Namrata’s on emerald green Iehenga set echoed the opulence of the Polki Box bride jewelry set she wore. The earrings had trailing strands of pearls that were pinned into her hair, adding a lovely regal touch. The cutout back and golden tassels of the dress were stunning, easily my favorite part of the outfit.

Liu Jianhua’s Collected Letters

Upstairs we found a few fun surprises in the galleries of the museum: an entire wing full of ancient Indian sculptures and artifacts, and Liu Jianhua’s Collected Letters, an installation of porcelain letters and Chinese characters hanging suspended in midair, as if floating weightless. The piece was commissioned to commemorate the museum’s 50th anniversary. It made for a great backdrop!

Green and Gold Indian Wedding Inspiration

Namrata created an additional look by adding an off-the-shoulder silver top. “Lots of people struggle with how to create different looks from the same outfit,” she says, “especially when it’s green. I like to give people ideas for how to mix things up.” She’s also particular about her footwear: aiming for the perfect balance of comfortable, yet fashionable. Her gold sequined sneakers were perfect.
