Rachel and Marcus’ Novato engagement portrait session was lively, fun, and super windy! As anyone who lives in the San Francisco Bay area already knows, the weather can be quite capricious at during this mid-winter time of year, but as you’ll see, the wind added a lovely dramatic element to their photos. Rachel wore a vibrant green flowing scarf, which made for some epic cinematic moments.
One of the many benefits of engagement portrait sessions is the chance to get to know each other before the Big Day. I love learning about the couple I’m working with, most especially their love story (always my favorite part!) Rachel + Marcus were high school sweethearts (does it get any cuter than that?). Rachel says she well remembers the day she first saw him: it was during PE class, when she and her friends happened to notice the new guy (Marcus had just transferred from another school). Moments later Rachel found herself in charge of putting together a volleyball team. And–you guessed it–the new guy was one of her picks!
The couple chose Indian Valley for their engagement photos because it is a place that holds special meaning for them; they went there on their second date, and the magic happened. We even took a few shots on red rock, where they hung out on that date…you know, talking, kissing… more kissing. Today they still frequently go hiking out there with their dog.
These two know these trails really well! I learned where to find the local radio tower, the best scenic hills, and–my favorite–the waterfall (and how much time it will take to get there and back). This is a couple that loves to track and explore, and even more importantly, laugh together. A lot.
Spending time with people in love is an awesome way to end a windy afternoon. If Rachel and Marcus’ wedding day is anywhere near as fun as their Novato engagement portrait session was, it will be a joyful day indeed!
