Marin wedding venue The Seminary at Strawberry has it all: location, weather, and panoramic, one-of-a-kind views of Mt. Tamalpais and the San Francisco skyline. All the reasons why it was once considered as the headquarters for the United Nations today make it one of the most desirable San Francisco wedding venues. Originally developed by the Southern Baptist Convention in the 1950’s, the Seminary has lovely vintage charm, and loads of space, both indoor and outdoor. Imagine 135-acres (conveniently located just 10 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge) of rolling lawns, trim, terra-cotta tiled buildings, and pristine landscapes and you get the picture. Keep in mind that these photos were taken in late Winter, as you can see from the bare trees. Everything is more green during wedding season!
Did I mention the free parking? In the Bay Area, where free parking is basically non-existent, a parking lot that accommodates several hundred guests is an invaluable blessing.
Here are a few other unique perks this Mill Valley wedding venue has to offer:
The Seminary at Strawberry has partnered with All Seasons Catering to offer culinary services for special events held at the venue. Everything is prepared on-site using fresh, local, seasonal, and organic foods whenever possible. Yummy, organic food= one huge item to check off your list of stuff you need to manage if you decide to have your wedding here!
As I already mentioned, there are several spaces available at the Seminary at Strawberry for weddings. The most popular area is The Clubhouse, because of its indoor and outdoor capability. Many couples opt to have an outdoor ceremony on the lawn followed by cocktail hour on the adjacent patio, and dinner and dancing indoors.
The Bride’s Getting-Ready Suite is just a short walk away from The Clubhouse across the bridge (a great spot for photos, by the way). Since the Seminary at Strawberry can host several weddings at a time, the suite is available on a first come first served basis. It was recently redone, and they’ve added some really sweet touches. It’s also spacious and has nice light; all important considerations for great getting-ready photos! As a San Francisco wedding photographer, I’m always thinking about these things…
The Auditorium is another indoor choice. I liked the high ceilings and the windows overlooking both Bay views and foliage. It’s also wired with a projector, so it’s all set for your wedding day slideshow.
The views from Strawberry Hill make it an ideal ceremony location. This wide-open space accommodates larger wedding ceremonies while providing an eagle-eye view of the entire area, from the San Francisco city skyline to the scenic marinas of Sausalito. Decisions, decisions…
Speaking of views, Skyline Terrace is another popular choice for cocktail hour (or dinner, or dancing under the stars…) because of the incredible views of the San Francisco skyline.
If you are hosting a large event (300 people or more), you’ll want to check out the Bayview Room. True trivia tidbit: it’s aptly named since it’s the largest indoor venue with views of the San Francisco Bay.
One of my favorite spots for a more intimate outdoor ceremony is The Grove. Nestled below Strawberry Hill, it’s a romantic and scenic spot, like something out of a fairytale. Can’t you just picture a ceremony surrounded by these lovely trees?
As you can see, Marin wedding venue The Seminary at Strawberry is quickly becoming one of the more sought-after San Francisco wedding venues because of the many options it offers engaged couples. Its rich history and ideal location add to its appeal, but it’s all a venue with heart. During the chaos of the Northern California wildfires this past October, The Seminary at Strawberry hosted 100 firefighters and became an official Red Cross evacuation center for hundreds that lost their homes due to these horrific fires.
