After I made a few suggestions on potential locations for Elizabeth and Derek’s Marin County engagement photos, they chose a garden setting. After all the rain we’ve had in the Bay Area, everything is lush and green, a perfect complement to the green and blue wedding theme they have planned for their wedding next year. Elizabeth’s engagement ring, a combination of Emerald (Derek’s birth stone; hooray for May birthdays) and sapphire, with a beautiful antique style setting, was the original inspiration for their green and blue wedding.
A common question people ask is what to wear for couples’ photoshoots, but Elizabeth had done her homework, her modern vintage outfit complemented the ring–and Derek’s classic style–perfectly.
These two definitely love to laugh together and are not afraid to be silly! While we created their Marin County engagement photos Elizabeth and Derek kept each other entertained.. Derek twirled his bride-to-be in a patch of cala lilies, and Elizabeth made funny faces to keep him smiling. We found all sorts of unusual plants in bloom, and Elizabeth fell in love with the cacti garden in particular. Though she works nearby, Elizabeth confessed she had never visited the garden before.
During my years as a wedding photographer in San Francisco, I’ve realized that gardens really are the perfect analogy to a marriage. New things blossom each season, which means even though you visit the same place many times over there are always new things to explore.
The session for Elizabeth and Derek’s Marin County engagement photos was elegant, relaxed, and fun, all wonderful traits to carry with them into their future. Wishing you endless seasons of happiness together!
