It was a beautiful, sunny day for Faye and Tom’s Masonic Lodge wedding in Vallejo, but oh my gosh, was it windy! So windy (think wind tunnel and ruined hairdo) that no one ventured outside, aside from a few brave guests. The Masonic Temple sits atop one of the highest hilltops in Vallejo, overlooking the valley and surrounding hills. There are glimpses of the San Francisco Bay off in the far distance. Faye and Tom, however, are adventurous souls, and were willing to brave the elements long enough for us to snap a few portraits outside.
But before we dive too deeply into Faye and Tom’s wedding day, we must discuss their love story. It’s like something out of the pages of a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel, spanning multiple decades and a couple of continents. The two met and fell in love many years ago when Tom was stationed in the Philippines. The romance was cut short when Tom was sent back to the US. That could have been the end of the story, but it’s not. Fast forward to a more recent time. Faye, now living in the US, decided to see if she could find Tom. She began the search on Facebook. Her efforts were successful, and the two started chatting long distance. Soon enough, they picked up where they had left off with their romance, and the rest is history!
Tom‘s brother, Scott, was best man, and Scott’s wife, Stephanie, served as Matron of honor. The wedding officiant, Dr Morris Curry (who has been uniting couples for 50 years), had a great sense of humor. When the moment arrived for The Kiss after he pronounced the couple man and wife, he first had them salute each other in jest. When they finally kissed, it was quite the kiss- must have had something to do with waiting those extra few seconds.
The dinner feast included a whole roasted pig, and I am embarrassed to admit that was the first time I had seen one. Someone ran off with one of the ears, which was later discovered on the dance floor. How it got there remains an unsolved mystery.
The couple’s happiness was palpable out on the dance floor during their first dance and in all the moments that followed. Faye was animated and energetic as they shared their first slice of cake, which lead to a slight mishap. Some of the cake ended up inside the bodice of her dress! Which made for some amusing shots.
Faye and Tom’s Masonic Lodge wedding finished with some rousing antics on the dance floor, followed by the bouquet toss and garter toss. I was laughing so hard through this part of the evening that my stomach muscles were hurting. DJ Stallion, (a former DJ for SF radio stations WILD 94.9) spun a killer 80s retro dance mix that kept a crowd out on the dance floor.
Faye and Tom, Fate has smiled on you twice, with one of the most epic happy endings ever. Wishing you joy together always!
