Lyford House in Tiburon, CA is one of our favorite San Francisco wedding venues for this reason: it offers the vintage elegance of bygone eras and a stunning natural setting. The breathtaking views of the San Francisco skyline, Sausalito, and Mount Tamalpais are just a few of the many reasons why it’s on our list of Top 10 Historic San Francisco Wedding Venues. Built in 1867, Lyford House is a registered national historic landmark, located on an Audubon sanctuary; if you hit it on the right day, you might be treated to sightings of hawks, ducks, sandpipers, and the occasional heron.
Today Lyford House is a well–loved, historic San Francisco wedding venue. This is an ideal spot for an intimate or moderately–sized Marin weddings, for up to 120 people. Grounds are quite spacious – 10 acres in total – and the property has a small private beach. The house is full of lovely antique furnishings, and vintage lighting fixtures and details. The bride’s getting-ready suite has windows overlooking the water with beautiful light and views. Although the rest of the home has an authentic vintage feel, never fear–the bathrooms are modern!
One of my favorite things about being a San Francisco wedding photographer is finding the best places for portraits and detail shots. My favorite locations at Lyford House for wedding photos include:
• The main salon with French doors overlooking the water and the San Francisco skyline.
• The grand staircase is a must. One of the best locations for bridal portraits in the whole house.
• There is a short trail that leads to a sweet redwood grove, and a lovely pathway, ideal spots for couples portraits For those who prefer a forest background.
• The beach (tides permitting).
• The terrace is an ideal spot for group photos, but it would be quite difficult to take a bad photo anywhere here!
Lyford House really shines in early spring when the wildflowers bloom in abundance; there are bright splashes of color everywhere from California poppies and lupine. This location has ideal weather through the spring and summer months, and downtown Tiburon is just a few minutes away. If you have guests traveling from out of town, Tiburon has a number of suite hotels, shops, and restaurants (including Guaymas-a gourmet Mexican restaurant right on the water where I used to work 1 million years ago). The whole area is a hiking and bicycling paradise.
Lyford House is located on a quiet side street, so parking is easy. For more information about how you can reserve Lyford house for your vintage San Francisco wedding, click here.
