It was the perfect start of the fall season for Colleen and Nate‘s Lake Temescal Beach House wedding in Oakland, and a festive family celebration. Colleen’s family traveled from Ohio and other far-flung places. Her sisters and nieces and Nate‘s sister were all part of the wedding party, and the guest list included parents, step parents, aunts, cousins, and Colleen’s godmother.
The beach house offers gorgeous views of Lake Temescal; splashes of fall color reflecting on its surface made it especially beautiful that day. Built in 1938, the beach house is just steps from a small, scenic beach and has a lovely intimate feel, like your own private getaway.
Things ran a little bit behind that day, and the couple almost didn’t have enough time to do the first look they had planned. However, as luck would have it, a number of guests also ran late, so we were able to squeeze it in. This was a beautiful and emotional first look; the couple laughed and cried as they kissed.
We had so much fun with their couples’ portraits; there was no shortage of scenic spots. A rustic stone staircase winds up the hill to a small waterfall, another stairway winds down to the scenic shore line.the patio area was a gorgeous spot for family portraits.
Colleen was resplendent in a gorgeous strapless gown with crystal belt detail, and Nate put a bit of old-fashioned flare into his groom style.
The Pac Man cufflinks were a gift from Colleen. Don’t you just love the purple accents and personalized antique watch?
During toasts, Colleen‘s father, Nate’s mother, and other friends and family shared funny stories about the couple but kept everyone laughing. Apparently when Nate was a toddler, he lived to dance on top of his mom’s Dotson. Colleen loved to pull all the buttons off the family’s remote controls and paint them white, for some inexplicable reason.
Nate’s sister Kate also gave a toast, and shared the story of how Nate and Colleen met. Colleen was originally friends with Nate’s sister, Kate, before she met Nate. Initially Kate instructed her brother not to date her friend, but one night Kate, Colleen, Nate and a group of friends went camping together, and when Kate looked over and saw Colleen and Nate sitting together chatting in front of the campfire she knew they were right for each other.
The night finished with a flurry of dancing, beginning with choline and needs first dance, followed by the parents dance, and ending with the young ones taking over the dance floor.
Colleen and Nate, wishing you happiness together always!
