Consider doing a first look.

Besides the benefit of giving the two of you some precious time alone, first looks make it possible to do your couple’s portraits and bridal portraits earlier in the day–while your make up is the freshest and most polished. Since you won’t be thinking about rushing off to cocktail hour, you’ll also be more relaxed when you take your couple’s portraits, which will naturally make for better photos. Lastly, you will receive approximately 40% more of these types of portraits when you opt for a first look.

Have your hair and make up done professionally.

A professional make up artist knows the best products to use (and how much of them) so that you will look amazing on camera. Besides the benefit of having a pro create a polish look for you, you will save yourself tons of stress by allowing someone else to take care of this for you. There’s nothing more stressful than trying to apply eyeliner with shaky, nervous hands! Having someone else do your make up is an incredibly nurturing and pampering experience. Worth every penny!

Begin your beauty regime 3–6 months ahead of your wedding date.

When you put a beauty regime in place months ahead of time your skin will glow on your wedding day! Make sure to plan things like brow shaping and facials several weeks before your wedding date to give time for an any redness or swelling to dissipate.

Get plenty of sleep.

If you want to look good, sleep is critical! We cannot stress this enough. Tired brides look more washed out and more…well, tired. Do yourself a favor and make sleep a priority. Seriously.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

Even if you might be one of those people who hydrates regularly, it’s easy for this to slip through the cracks on your wedding day. There’s so much going on! Make sure to bring at least 64 ounces of water for yourself and have water available for everyone in your wedding party. Once you start drinking wine, champagne–or your special wedding cocktail–make sure to switch up to water from time to time as well. Your skin will thank you for it! And, as a side benefit, no headaches the next morning when it’s time to take off for your honeymoon…
